Located within the borders of Cirali in Antalya’s Kumluca district, Yanartas has fascinated travelers for centuries with its eternal flames. Known in mythology as Chimaera, the flames are created when natural gas emerges from the ground and burns continuously. The site is especially magical at night.
According to Lycian mythology, the flames of Yanartas are linked to the Chimaera legend. The Chimaera was said to be a monster with a lion’s head, goat’s body, and serpent tail. It was defeated by the hero Bellerophon, who rode the winged horse Pegasus. Legend says the monster’s breath still rises from the earth as the eternal flames.

To reach Yanartas, you’ll walk about 1 km on a rocky path. Hiking at night with a flashlight makes the atmosphere even more mystical.
Sit around the natural flames and enjoy a warm drink. Some visitors even roast marshmallows or local snacks on the fire.
Yanartas is a great route for nature walks. Camping is also possible in areas near Cirali Beach.
